Code for Sustainable Homes

The Code for Sustainable Homes will become the Government’s single national standard for the construction of sustainable homes which minimise the environmental impacts of housing.

Assessment under the code leads to a star rating from 1-6, 6 being the highest. Even 1 is above the requirements of the current Building Regulations.

Scoring under the Code is based on credits awarded in each of 9 categories, with a total of 104 credits available. Sound insulation is part of Category 7: Health and well being, and there are up to 4 credits available.

For dwellings that exceed the requirements of part E of the Building Regulations for airborne and impact sound when tested to the method prescribed in the Regulations  as follows:

Where applicable Solutions in the Solution Selector are marked with 1 star where if correctly installed the Solution would achieve 1 credit, 3 stars for 3 credits and 4 stars for 4 credits.
